Major immigration flows to Sweden 1990-1999

Average annual flows above 1000 people by country of origin

image description

Migration flows by country of origin are of growing interest in the Nordic Region due to the recent unprecedented in-flows of migrants.  There are also interesting differences between the Nordic countries with respect to the dominant countries of origin of migrants and the size of inflows.

During the 1990s, the largest immigrant inflow to Sweden was from Norway. The other large main inflows to Sweden during the decade were from Iraq and Finland. With the exception of the U.S., all other migrant inflows to Sweden exceeding an annual average of 1000 people from a single country of origin were from Northern Europe or the Middle East.
