Major immigration flows to Norway 2000-2009

Average annual flows above 1000 people by country of origin

image description

Migration flows by country of origin are of growing interest in the Nordic Region due to the recent unprecedented inflows of migrants.  There are also interesting differences between the Nordic countries with respect to the dominant countries of origin of migrants and the size of inflows.

During the measured period, Norway’s economy was booming, provided many employment possibilities. Therefore, it is perhaps unsurprising that many of the largest inflows to Norway during this time were from nearby countries, such as Sweden and Poland (annual average inflows of more than 5000 people from both countries), Denmark (3000) and Lithuania (1000).
